Detailed description of the armchair

Ergonomics Assessment and Standards

The ergonomic Ergo Raffino chairs fully meet the requirements and comply with the Regulation of the Minister of Family and Social Policy of October 18, 2023, amending the regulation on occupational safety and health at workstations equipped with display screen equipment.

The Ergo Raffino swivel chair is equipped with a gas spring and a backrest connected to the seat by synchronous mechanisms. In conjunction with the ability to adjust the seat and backrest height, backrest tilt angle, and appropriately contoured seat and backrest, it ensures full adaptation of seating conditions to the individual needs of the user.

Additionally, adjustable armrests, headrest, and lumbar support, as well as the mechanisms used, enable dynamic and ergonomic sitting, as well as assuming a reclined, comfortable, and ergonomic body position, conducive to relaxation and maintaining proper posture.

The Ergo Raffino chair meets the following standards and has a Certificate of Conformity for them:
PN-EN 1022:2024-04
PN-EN 1335-1+A1:2023-04
PN-EN 1335-2:2019-03

It has a load capacity for users weighing up to 110 kg.

Headrest

The headrest of the Ergo Raffino chair is 385 mm wide and 170 mm high. It features height adjustment and two-stage tilt angle adjustment - covering the angle of the holder and the angle of the headrest cushion.

The height mechanism has 4 detents, allowing adjustment within a 40 mm range. The headrest also offers tilt angle adjustment in two ranges. The first allows for a position change of up to 45°, while the second - equipped with a special locking button - allows adjustment up to 63°, ensuring optimal adaptation to the user's individual needs.

The large surface of the headrest is made of durable, resistant upholstery mounted on a polypropylene frame with 30% fiberglass. This solution provides stable, multidimensional head support and high comfort of use.

The height and angle adjustment of the headrest allows the support to be perfectly adapted to the user's height and the natural curvature of the cervical spine. Proper positioning reduces tension in the neck and shoulders, which is crucial during long hours of computer work.

Backrest

The backrest of the chair has been designed for durability, ergonomics, and precise adjustment to the user. It is made of durable, resistant, yet flexible upholstery, mounted on a polypropylene frame with 30% fiberglass added, which ensures high structural stability and even load distribution.

The backrest structure of the Ergo Raffino chair consists of two separate, harmoniously connected parts that provide coherent and balanced support for the back and lumbar spine.

The width of the backrest is 450 mm, and its height is 590 mm. The height adjustment - including the contoured lumbar part – is performed via 4 detents within a range of 40 mm, allowing for precise adjustment to the user's height and body structure. The tilt angle of the backrest is adjustable within 6 positions from 89° to 122°.

The back of the chair's backrest is mounted on a durable polished aluminum structure. The screws fastening the backrest to the height adjustment mechanism and the lumbar part are aesthetically hidden under a plastic cover. The structural element consists of two polished aluminum arms, diverging downwards and connecting under the seat with the mechanism elements and armrests, ensuring the integrity and rigidity of the entire structure.

The backrest structure of both chairs features a function that follows the natural movement of the user's back when leaning left and right, providing dynamic, multi-plane support and high work comfort.

The height adjustment of the backrest allows it to be adapted to the user's height, ensuring proper support for the entire spine. The tilt adjustment allows for changing position during work, which improves circulation and reduces muscle fatigue.

Seat

In Ergo Raffino, the seat is made of high-quality cast polyurethane foam using high-temperature molding technology. The foam used has a density of 55 kg/m³ and is 69.5 mm thick. The polyurethane foaming process in molds ensures a uniform, compact structure without empty spaces, which translates into high durability, resistance to deformation, and long-term retention of performance parameters. The foam does not require the use of glue or formaldehyde, making it safe for health and environmentally friendly.

The front edge of the seat has been ergonomically rounded, which reduces pressure on the thigh muscles and limits the risk of lower limb numbness when maintaining a forward-leaning position, e.g., during handwriting. The entire seat is covered with durable and wear-resistant upholstery.  The bottom of the seat is protected by a cover made of polypropylene with 25% glass fiber additive, 3.1 mm thick, which effectively prevents deformation and strengthens the structure.

The seat width is 490 mm, and the depth is 500 mm. The seat height is adjusted using the first aluminum lever  (dimensions 73x23 mm), located under the seat on the left side. This adjustment allows the feet to be placed firmly on the floor, while maintaining a knee angle of approximately 90°. This is the basis of an ergonomic position that supports proper circulation and reduces strain on the lower back. It also prevents nerve compression, muscle tension, and numbness in the legs and buttocks.

Depth adjustment is possible within a range of 50 mm. The mechanism is operated by a lever (dimensions 45x15 mm), made of polyamide with 30% glass fiber, located under the seat on the right side of the seated person, which allows for intuitive and ergonomic adjustment to the user. This adjustment allows the chair to be adapted to the user's thigh length. The appropriate distance between the seat edge and the knees prevents blood vessel compression and improves sitting comfort.

Additionally, the seat offers a forward tilt adjustment of 3°, supporting a more dynamic, active sitting position.

Mechanism

The mechanism was designed with maximum ergonomics and ease of use in mind. The second handle (dimensions 73x23 mm), made of polished aluminium and placed to the user's left, adjusts the backrest tilt. This solution allows for easy adjustment of the backrest tilt angle without having to lean over.

The synchronous mechanism with 6 locking positions has a backrest tilt angle in the Ergo Raffino model ranging from 89°-122°. The synchronous mechanism allows simultaneous tilting of the backrest and seat in appropriate proportions. This keeps the body in an ergonomic position even when changing position, increasing comfort and relieving pressure on the spine.

The tilt angle lock allows the backrest to be stopped in the selected position. This is particularly important when working with concentration, where a stable and repeatable body position increases the precision of tasks performed. Proper adjustment improves weight distribution, increases comfort and supports an ergonomic pelvic position.

The ability to set a negative angle allows the backrest or seat to be tilted gently forward. This position supports active sitting, promotes an upright posture and reduces lumbar strain when working at a desk. Raising the handle to the first position activates the backrest tilt angle adjustment within the range given above. Raising it higher - to the second, distinctly palpable degree (signalled by a characteristic click of the pawl) - activates the function of gently tilting the entire backrest system together with the seat forward, supporting a more active, ergonomic sitting position. Return to the standard setting is achieved by lowering the handle one step down, which returns the backrest and seat to the initial position. Completely lowering the handle locks the mechanism, allowing the backrest to be stably locked in the selected setting.

The backrest tilt force, adjustable to the user's weight, is regulated by a knob located under the seat on the right side. This is an extremely important adjustment, as setting the backrest tilt force too high for light users (approx. 45kg) causes leg muscle tension and nerve compression leading to pain. Conversely, heavier users (approx. 90-120 kg) need stronger tilt force, as setting it too low will cause an unexpected maximum backward tilt and excessive tension in the front of the legs. The resistance force adjustment allows the pressure required to recline the backrest to be matched to the user's weight and preferences. This ensures smooth and controlled movement, and the backrest provides stable support without the effect of sudden recline for a heavier person or excessive resistance for a lighter person.

The antishock mechanism protects the user from abrupt backrest return after unlocking. This prevents the backrest from hitting the back, and ensures smooth and safe position changes, increasing comfort and caring for the spine. To re-unlock the mechanism and set the backrest in the desired position, lean back against the backrest and gently push it backwards – this allows you to re-adjust the tilt angle to your needs.

Armrests

The chair has 3D armrests made of polyamide with 30% glass fiber and polyurethane. The pad length is 250 mm, and the width is 90 mm, tapering to 80 mm at the back. The armrests adjust in the following planes:

  • up-down adjustment in 7 positions within a 70 mm range
  • front-back adjustment in 6 positions within a 60 mm range
  • left-right adjustment within a 35° range.

The multi-plane adjustment of the armrests allows for proper forearm positioning and shoulder relief. The correct setting reduces neck tension and minimizes the risk of wrist discomfort.

Gas spring

The gas lift in Ergo Raffino belongs to Class 4 and offers a 100 mm extension range. The lift's casing is made of steel, which allows for an even load distribution of up to 200 kg, ensuring stability and reliability of the structure. The internal core is filled with compressed nitrogen with 99.7% purity, guaranteeing smooth and precise seat height adjustment while maintaining maximum safety of use.

The total height adjustment of the chair, including adjustments for seat height, backrest, and headrest, ranges from 1155–1380 mm in the Ergo Raffino model and 1130–1360 mm in the Ergo Takumi model, allowing for precise adaptation of the chair to the user's height and preferred sitting position.

Base

The Ergo Raffino base is made of a durable, polished 350# grade aluminum alloy, combining high aesthetics with exceptional durability. The design supports a maximum static load of up to 1136 kg, ensuring stability and safety of use.

The diameter of the base itself is 640 mm, while with the wheels installed it reaches 700 mm, guaranteeing solid and comfortable support for the chair in all working conditions.

The ability to rotate freely by 360° increases mobility at the workstation and reduces the need to twist the torso. This reduces the risk of spinal overload and improves the ergonomics of daily movements.

Wheels

The castors are made of durable nylon and have a diameter of 60 mm. They provide quiet 360° rotation, allowing for smooth and comfortable chair movement in any direction, while minimizing noise during use.

Upholstery fabrics

Both the mesh and the fabric are designed for use in office buildings and public facilities with high resistance to abrasion, light and fire.
